CPICS.TV ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY SERIES MY LANKA PREMIERES JULY 24, 2026

Filmmaker Heather Dirckze explores identity, family, and belonging while reconnecting with her Sri Lankan heritage

LOS ANGELES, California — June 23, 2026 — Cpics.tv announces the premiere of My Lanka, a warm and deeply personal Cpics.tv Original documentary series streaming exclusively on the platform beginning July 24, 2026.

Through the eyes of filmmaker Heather DirckzeMy Lanka offers a unique and thoughtful exploration of cultural impostor syndrome—the feeling of being disconnected from, or not fully belonging to, one’s own cultural heritage.

Raised in Canada with limited Sri Lankan cultural influence in her daily life, Heather grew up questioning what it meant to be South Asian and whether she could genuinely identify as Sri Lankan. Seeking answers, she travels to Sri Lanka for the first time to explore the country’s history, traditions, communities, and the roots of her own family.

The documentary series follows Heather’s journey through three interconnected themes: identity, culture, and family.

As she travels across the island, Heather meets people who offer different perspectives on cultural identity and the many ways a person can belong to a community. She immerses herself in Sri Lankan life by learning to prepare curries and roti, studying Kandyan dance, visiting historically significant locations, and experiencing everyday life throughout the country.

Heather’s search also becomes an intimate family journey. She traces her family tree back several centuries and meets relatives from both sides of her father’s family, uncovering personal stories that connect her Canadian upbringing to generations of Sri Lankan history.

Along the way, My Lanka explores the histories of Sri Lanka’s Dutch Burgher and Sinhalese communities. Heather examines the distinctions and connections between these identities as she attempts to understand how history, ancestry, and lived experience shape a person’s sense of self.

Set against the natural beauty, vibrant traditions, and rich cultural landscape of Sri Lanka, the series invites audiences to experience the country alongside Heather as she considers a universal question: Does embracing our heritage transform our cultural identity and sense of belonging—or can we return to our roots and still feel like a tourist?

Personal, reflective, and visually captivating, My Lanka speaks to anyone who has ever questioned where they belong, how their ancestry influences them, or what it truly means to call a culture their own.

My Lanka begins streaming July 24, 2026, exclusively on Cpics.tv.
